Playlist

Amazingly, some of the pieces we play today have been on our play list since we started – they are such wonderful tunes which everyone loves. Others have been picked up over the years and some are brand new. Many come and go but we aim to have around 25 at any one time that we can perform from memory.

Arrangements

Arrangements are sometimes done by members of the band but we also pay outside professionals to do arrangements for us and work with us.

We are an almost completely acoustic band, with a line up of saxophones (4 varieties!), flutes, trombones, trumpet, clarinet, guitars, drums and other percussion. We can set up quickly and do not need an electricity supply. This gives us a unique mobility and versatility with regards to the kind of venues we can play.

Our Music: What we play

 Our Music

Our music is an eclectic mix of pieces from different parts of the world and different genres. We play music from Africa, Latin America and Europe and in a range of styles including ska, klezmer, blues, and jazz based.

In the early days the pieces were chosen by the band leader, Ken Patterson, and we also learned pieces from other bands who generously gave us their parts. Over the past few years we have been selecting pieces ourselves that we like, that will suit the band and that we think our audiences will like.

Here is the list of our current tunes:
